Fish Fry

Sam BrookA delve through an esoteric collection of Blues, Rhythm &. Blues, R&R, Soul & World Music. The name comes from Louis Jordan's record, Saturday Night Fish Fry. It developed from a programme I did on Hospital Radio Norwich in the 80's called All That Jazz &. Blues. We decided the name was a bit bog standard, and boring, so we changed it. I can't remember who thought of it. A team effort I suppose.

Profile

Early influences: Little Richard, Buddy Holly, Wynonie Harris, and the Stones first LP.
My first blues LP purchase: Muddy Waters at Newport (not the one in Gwent)
Personal Tastes: Virtually anything good that derives from 'Black' music culture, from Dance &. Big Band through AOR, Country, to Funk, and Rap. Also enjoy inspirational Classical, such as Elgar, and have recently discovered Gregorian Chant.

Main landmarks in entertainment:

Theatre Arts Course (Drama). Theatre Royal, Norwich.
Hospital Radio Norwich, plus Mobile, and Club DJ work / Resident DJ, American Base, Sculthorpe.
BBC Radio Norfolk Roadshow. Link and warm-up man.

Personal life:
Born in a place that shall remain nameless, as I hated it. Moved when my father was transferred, and attended what would now be Ysgol Gynradd Llancynfelyn, and Dinas Sec. Modern. Worked at Aberporth, as an engineering apprentice, then lived in Caerdydd for about 7 years. Married a girl from Norwich and ended up there for 25 years. Returned to Aber. area in 2003, as I felt home sick. Sorry any Norfolk people reading this. It's a lovely county, and I've still got some good friends there. But there's NO mountains. Unless you count Sheringham area! Worked as HGV, and PSV driver. I love the freedom and variety.

Support football teams: Aberystwyth Town, and Norwich City (Obvious Really) Though with both teams, I sometimes wonder why (Only Joking)

Well, that's it really. A bit worrying when you can put your life on one page! There's been a bit more than that, but I wouldn't want to bore you with juicy scandal. Live in hope. We'll save that for Monday and Friday nights at seven, and don't bring any of that CHEAP plonk either.

Yours etc. John Sambrook.
